Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at wucwebsite2022@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Not at all! We welcome all people. The United Church has a history of inclusivity and you will feel right at home whether you are already confident in your faith or if you’re just trying to dig a little deeper into the bigger questions of life.

All kinds of people go to Wellington. There’s a place for everyone, no matter whether you are on your own, part of a couple, or bringing the entire family. All ages are welcome and we promise a thought-provoking sermon, uplifting music and a warm welcome. Join us for our social time after the service and you’ll get to know others in no time! If you like, please take a coloured mug and we will be sure to say hello!

Comfortably and casually. There is no dress code at Wellington and we welcome you just as you are.

Please note: we promote a scent-free environment.

We suggest that for the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service you should arrive at least 10 minutes ahead.

We want everyone to feel welcome and able to participate fully in the life of Wellington United Church. Our building includes a lift to the sanctuary, a hearing assist system, and an accessible washroom. If you have additional accessibility needs or would like assistance before your visit, please contact us—we'll be happy to help make your experience as comfortable and accessible as possible.

At the front door, a greeter will hand you a church bulletin that you can follow. Words to scripture passages, responsive readings and hymns are projected on a screen at the front of the church. There is no need to feel self-conscious – you can’t make a mistake.

Lots of people come to church on their own. There are no designated pews so you can sit wherever you like. Please be sure to let one of the greeters know that you are a visitor, however, we promise you won’t be singled out in any way.

There is no required donation from you. Should you become a regular, you may want to think about what amount you can afford to contribute towards supporting what we do. No offering is ever considered too small. You may see people placing envelopes on the collection plate. Some people contribute through e-transfer and some people contribute through PAR (pre-authorized remittance).

There is no obligation to sing along but we think you’ll soon feel like joining in. We have a wonderful choir that makes sure our combined voices sound great! The words to hymns are projected on a screen at the front of the church or you can use the hymn books in the pews.

Baptism is a very personal thing. We do not require that you be baptized to participate fully at Wellington United. At the same time, should you feel this is something you’d like to pursue, you are invited to discuss it with our Minister.

You will hear us say “Everyone is welcome at the table.” That means you may join if you are sincerely seeking to follow Christ. There is no pressure either way. Like baptism, receiving communion is a personal choice.

Children are always welcome in the sanctuary during church services. There are activities for children in the sanctuary and there is an area for Sunday School or play in the parlour on the lower level. As part of our Church Council, we have a representative who is available to help with Sunday School.

You are most welcome to start coming to Wellington Church on any Sunday of the year. Some people begin by attending church on special occasions, like Easter or Christmas, but there is no need to wait – the best time is this coming Sunday!

At Wellington United Church, we respect and appreciate covenant relationships. This is an intimate, exiting, and important time in your life and we would be pleased to help you celebrate your love for each other in a faithful, holy way. You do not have to be a member of Wellington to have a wedding here, but we would encourage you to come and meet our Community of Faith.
